History and context

The ship was built in 1886 by the Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft on a joint order by the Flensburg-Ekensunder Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft and the Sonderburger Dampfschiffahrts Actien-Gesellschaft, both with headquaters in Flensburg, Germany.

Ekensund (Danisch: Egensund) located at northern shore of the Flensburg fjord and Sonderburg (Danish: Sønderborg) at that time were part of the German Empire.

The little ship was 28.9 m long with a beam of 7.1 m and was registered with 254 tons gross. The
